I studied History and Political Science at the University of Hannover and at the Universidad de Costa Rica in San José. I obtained my Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Hamburg. My doctoral thesis deals with the discursive construction of crime as a social and political problem in Costa Rica (further information: http://www.nomos-shop.de/13673).
Currently, I am researcher at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence at Bielefeld University, researcher at the International Center for Violence Research at Bielefeld University (http://internationalviolenceresearch.org/), and Associated Researcher at the GIGA Institute of Latin American Studies in Hamburg (http://staff.giga-hamburg.de/huhn).
I have previously worked as researcher at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies in Hamburg.
My current research is focused on violence in Latin America, international violence research, the discursive construction of crime as a social and political problem in Latin America, Central American politics and society.
